Honzuiji
This temple is part of the Soto sect. The founder was the military commander Miura Yoshioki, and the temple is known as the Miura family’s personal temple. It is said that the first shogun of the Kamakura period (1185-1333), Minamoto no Yoritomo, would often enjoy visiting this temple due to the scenic beauty of Misaki. Yoritomo then built the “Sakura Imperial Palace”, “Tsubaki Imperial Palace”, and “Peach Imperial Palace” (=”Misaki’s Three Imperial Palaces”) in Misaki. In this temple, the bells of the Muromachi period (1333-1573) are well preserved.
