This Kamakura specialty carving store is located in front of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu. “Kamakura Carving” is a lacquered craftwork that started in the Kamakura period (1185-1333). From the 12th century, Buddha statue sculptors began making lacquerware crafts for Buddhist altars and incense containers used in temples. It was influenced by the culture of Zen Buddhism and features the delicacy of the carving and beauty of sunken colors. You can purchase chopsticks at this shop for 2,000 yen, and it makes for a perfect little gift.
