Nishikano Shrine
This shrine is dedicated to the guardian deity of Nishiuraga. It is paired with the Higashi Kano Shine on the other side, and the deity enshrined in both shrines are the Emperor Ojin, also known as Homutawake, and Hachiman (God of War). The shrine was originally named Kano Shrine, and there is a reason why the east and west are separated. In 1692, Uraga was separated into Uraga Village in the east and west according to the political measures of the shogunate. Since the local deity was located on the west coast, it is said that for a long time the Kano Shrine parishioner blessed the shrine parishioner of the east side and wished “to have the guardian deity in the east side in the same manner as before…”, then the shrine divided their deity with a ritual.
