The temple of the Soto school of Buddhism is built on a hill, so you have an unbroken view of Kamoi Harbor, Tokyo Bay, and the Boso Peninsula. Tokugawa Ieyasu took over Edo, the Miura Peninsula was taken over by the shogunate, and the Edo-period magistrate Hasegawa “Seven Gates” Nagatsuna was put in charge of Uraga. The temple was then converted to the Soto sect. The bodhisattva, Akasagarbha, is worshiped here. This seated Buddha is known for his wisdom and strength. The inscription in the womb of this Buddha statue is the “6th. year of the Ouei era (1400)” and ”Matsu Kumoan”, the temple petitioner of that time, and is said to convey the work of the priest Gyoki. The temple is designated as a cultural asset of Yokosuka City because the establishment has an old 宗風 sculpture.
