Yokosuka City Museum
The Miura Peninsula has a nature and human history museum. At this museum there are historical materials of the history and transition of the streets and people who lived on the Miura Peninsula, starting from the Paleolithic period to the present day. Valuable materials such as picture scrolls that describe Perry’s arrival, original design drawings of the “Yokosuka Ironworks” shipyard that became the cornerstone of modernization in Japan, and architectural models are available here. At the Natural Hall, there are many exhibits of creatures found on the Miura Peninsula such as fish, birds, insects, mammals, and plants. The large, whole body skeletal model of a Naumann elephant is also quite impressive.
